2014 Workshops:

I hope your new year is off to an exciting and creative start!

As many of you already know, I resigned from my position at USC at the end of 2013; if recent events are any indication, I think I made just the right change at just the right moment.

These past few weeks I’ve been in Paris and in Warsaw, having a very busy and productive time. I’m happy to share with you the news that a French translation of my second book, Tsigan: The Gypsy Poem, will be published by Scribe-L’Harmattan in June of 2014, launched with a multi-media and bi-lingual performance based on the text by the French theatre company Erinna.  And I’ve just learned today that a multi-media performance of the text in Polish will be presented in January 2015 in the beautiful auditorium of Warsaw’s new Museum of the History of Polish Jews. I’m thrilled at the wings this work has grown and grateful for the support and encouragement of friends around the world.

I’ll be returning to Los Angeles soon and will begin a series of private and intensive poetry workshops at my home on Whitworth Drive beginning January 26. Workshops will meet every Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and are open to any poet working seriously at his/her craft. I’ll give optional generative exercises each week, and each week we’ll offer rigorous close-critique of works-in-progress in an atmosphere of camaraderie and shared inspiration.

There will be a total of three 4-week cycles, and I ask that each participant commit to one full four-week cycle at a time, with the option of renewing for subsequent cycles at the end of each cycle. I can accommodate a maximum of 11 poets and the workshop is already half-subscribed. Please let me know by return email, as soon as possible but no later than January 16, if you’d like to participate in the first cycle. Dates are below. If you know in advance that you’d like to participate in more than one cycle, I’d appreciate knowing that, too. I’ll send a follow-up email to participants once we have our full contingent; should there be space available in the second and third cycles of the workshop, I’ll send out a notice to my larger list.

I’ll be traveling again, starting in late April, but I’m also planning to offer workshops in Europe in the year ahead, so I’ll keep you posted about those.

Here’s to a bright new year full of poetry!
